Swedish enterprises invested SEK 448.3 billion in 2023

The investment rate among enterprises increased by 8 percent in 2023 compared with 2022.
Total investments amounted to SEK 448.3 billion in 2023, which corresponded to an increase by SEK 34.8 billion compared with 2022. The largest investments were made in the real estate industry, which amounted to SEK 130.6 billion and accounted for 29 percent of total investments. The highest percentage increase was recorded in the industry business services, with an increase of 40 percent to an investment level of 29.1 billion kronor.
Most industries increased their investments in 2023 compared with 2022.The Bank and insurance industry increased its investments by SEK 6 billion, corresponding to an increase by 32 percent. The construction industry as well as the energy industry increased their investments in 2023 compared with 2022 with 22 and 20 percent respectively. The real estate industry decreased their investments by SEK 8.1 billion compared with 2022. As a percentage, the real estate industry decreased by 6 percent to an investment level of SEK 130.6 billion.
Planned investments in 2024
According to the results of the Investment Survey, planned investments are expected to amount to SEK 364.9 billion in 2024. If this forecast is accurate, investments will decrease by 19 percent in 2024 compared with 2023.

These statistics are based on a sampling frame from Statistics Sweden’s Business Register database. All enterprises with at least 200 employees are included, while enterprises with between 20 and 199 employees are sampled. In some activities, enterprises with between 5 and 199 employees are sampled. Enterprises in the mining, quarrying and manufacturing industry with between 10 and 19 employees are estimated based on investment information from enterprises with between 20 and 49 employees in the same industry.
