Purpose and use

The purpose of the survey is to illustrate the scope and changes of foreign ownership of enterprises and branches in Sweden. Statistics Sweden is conducting this survey annually on behalf of the Swedish Agency for Growth Policy Analysis (Growth Analysis) which is the government agency responsible for the official statistics in this area.

The survey consists of two parts, one for parent companies and one for branches.

Your response

The obligation to provide information is mandatory under the Official Statistics Act (2001:99). The statistics for this survey are also regulated according to the Official Statistics Ordinance (2001:100) and Growth Analysis Ordinance (MT‑FS 2009:1) (pdf). The information that is submitted to Statistics Sweden is protected according to chapter 24 section 8 of the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act (2009:400).

However, information on foreign ownership and country is submitted to the general business register (BASUN) according to the ordinance on the general business register (1984:692). Information in BASUN is not confidential. When the information is published, no single workplace or enterprise will be able to be identified. Consultation has taken place with the Board of Swedish Industry and Commerce for Better Regulation (NNR) and the Swedish Better Regulation Council.

Can we be allowed a respite to submit information?

If you cannot send in the form by the deadline, please contact us by e‑mail insamling.utlagda@scb.se or telephone (+46 10‑479 62 70). Normally there is no problem for an extension to reply by one or two weeks. Remember to give your corporate identity number.

What is included in the survey?

This is a total population survey, which means that all enterprises and branches that are considered/believed to be foreign owned are included in the survey.

Publishing of the results is done in the series Growth Analysis Statistics on their website and in publications from Eurostat and OECD.
