UK’s withdrawal from the EU
The United Kingdom left the EU on the 1st of February 2020, and entered a transition period which lasts until 31st of December 2020. During this transition period, trade with the United Kingdom will still be reported to Intrastat on country code GB. After the transitional period, the UK will no longer be covered by EU regulations or be part of the EU's internal market and customs union.
With the approval of the "Protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland", Northern Ireland will, starting from 1st of January 2021, remain in the EU’s internal market for goods, but leave the customs union, and thus still be collected through Intrastat declarations. From 1st of January 2021, the Swedish Customs will collect trade with the United Kingdom without Northern Ireland through customs declarations.
This change requires new country codes in order to be able to separate the collection of trade to Statistics Sweden and the Swedish Customs. For trade with Northern Ireland, country code XI is used. Reporting of trade on country code GB will not be possible for the reference period January 2021 and onwards (does not apply to revised data for previous periods).
Statistics Sweden will continue to publish trade with Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom as a joint country after 1st of January 2021 under the code GB.
