The Census Department at Statistics Sweden was created in 1946 as a supervisory agency for county offices for the census that was also created then. The Census Department was responsible for the machinery of the county offices and released the circular with regulations and forms to the county offices. The tasks of the Census Department were transferred in 1964 to the Central Census and Collection board.
