  • Continued decrease of children adopted in Sweden

    The adoption rates for children born outside of Sweden have seen the largest decline. Additionally, since 2019, there has been a decrease in the adoption of children born in Sweden.

  • Shared residence is common among children with parents living apart

    Around 220 000 children and youth aged 0–19 with parents living apart are alternating their residence equally with each parent. Shared residence is more common among 6–9-year-olds, compared to both younger and older children. It is also more common among children with high income, compared to other children.

  • Fewer children experienced their parents separating in 2021 and 2022

    In 2022 just over 58 000 children under the age of 18 saw their parents separating. This corresponds to 3.3 percent of children who were living with two parents at the beginning of the year. This is the same level as in 2021, but at a lower level compared to the years 2015–2020.

  • Lower share of children who have a low income standard in 2021

    In 2021 7,5 percent of children under the age of 18, living at home, had a low income standard, meaning that the family’s income is not enough to meet basic needs. That is a decrease of 3 percentage points, when compared to 2014.
