  • Permanent employees are increasing but unemployment remains at a higher level

    In May 2025, there were 5 231 000 employed people, not seasonally adjusted. The number of permanent employees increased by 81 000 people compared to May 2024 and amounted to 4 185 000. The number of hours worked per week averaged 167.4 million. The number of unemployed people increased by 66 000 and amounted to 561 000. This corresponds to an unemployment rate of 9.7 percent, an increase of 1.0 percentage points. Seasonally adjusted and smoothed data show an increase in both the number of employed people and in the employment rate. The seasonally adjusted and smoothed unemployment rate stood at 8.7 percent.

  • Continued subdued labour market with some signs of recovery

    In April 2025, there were 5 261 000 employed people, not seasonally adjusted. The number of hours worked per week averaged 157.0 million. The number of unemployed people was 513 000, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 8.9 percent. Seasonally adjusted and smoothed data show an increase in employment and a decrease in unemployment. The unemployment rate stood at 8.6 percent.

  • Unemployment increased in the first quarter

    In the first quarter of 2025, the number of employed people amounted to 5 174 000, not seasonally adjusted. The average number of hours worked per week amounted to 160.5 million hours. There were 533 000 unemployed people, an increase by 36 000. This corresponds to an unemployment rate of 9.3 percent, an increase by 0.5 percentage points. Seasonally adjusted and smoothed data shows an increase in both employment and unemployment. The unemployment rate amounted 8.7 percent.

  • Subdued labour market with some positive signs

    In March 2025, there were 5 240 000 employed people, not seasonally adjusted. The number of hours worked per week averaged 171.4 million. The number of unemployed people was 486 000, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 8.5 percent. Seasonally adjusted and smoothed data show an increase in employment. The seasonally adjusted and smoothed number of unemployed people increased and the unemployment rate stood at 8.8 percent.
