  • Sweden's current account surplus continues to decline

    During the first quarter of 2026, the current account surplus amounted to SEK 94 billion, a decrease of SEK 37.4 billion compared to the first quarter of 2025. The financial balance shows net lending of 192.1 billion, with other investments being the strongest contributing factor.

  • Swedish current account surplus at its lowest in three years

    A decline in the trade balance during the fourth quarter of 2025 results in Sweden’s lowest current account balance since the fourth quarter of 2022. At the same time, the financial account shows net borrowing of SEK 89,0 billion.

  • Swedish portfolio assets decreased abroad

    Swedish holdings in foreign portfolio assets decreased in the first half of 2025. Total holdings amounted to SEK 10 682 billion, which was a decrease of 3 percent compared to the end of the second half of 2024. Holdings in shares accounted for the largest percentage decrease. Holding in investment fund shares decreased meanwhile debt securities increased.

  • Foreign direct investment positions by ultimate investing economy in 2024

    The geographical distribution of foreign direct investment (FDI) positions in Sweden varies depending on the reporting principle applied. FDI Statistics can be presented either by the immediate counterpart country, where the direct investor is domiciled, or by the country of the ultimate controlling owner, i.e., the country in which the ultimate controlling parent company is resident. The latter presentation principle is internationally referred to as the Ultimate Investing Economy (UIE), which provides a more accurate picture of where investments are ultimately controlled.

  • Swedish portfolio investments abroad continue to increase

    During the third quarter of 2025, the current account surplus amounts to SEK 93.2 billion, an increase of SEK 5.1 billion compared to the third quarter of 2024. At the same time, the financial account showed net lending of SEK 155.8 billion, with portfolio investments being the strongest contributing factor.
