  • Children with disabilities are less comfortable in their class

    37 percent among girls with disabilities feel that they have been treated badly by other students, compared to 28 percent among other girls in population. The corresponding percentages for boys are lower, 33 and 18 percent respectively.

  • Many children enjoy school

    Six in ten children aged 12 to 18 years get on very well at school, where most of them have friends to hang out with. However, one in four children wish there were fewer tests and homework quizzes. Girls spend more time than boys on preparing their homework. Seven in ten girls spend three hours or more on homework each week.

  • One in three girls does not talk to her parents when she has concerns

    Among girls aged 16–18 years, 3 out of 10 do not confide in their parents when they have concerns or are worried. Girls choose to talk to someone else instead. Among boys in the same age, the corresponding figure is 2 out of 10.

  • Boys feel safer than girls in their neighbourhood

    More boys than girls feel safe at night in the area where they live. Six out of ten boys, compared to four out of ten girls aged 12–18 years have answered that they feel very safe.

  • Every other young person has a summer job

    Half of the young people aged 16-18 years have a summer job. It is not as common to have a summer job among those between 13 and 15 years; only one in ten children in this group have one.
