  • Employment growth and reduced dependency burden years 2022-2040

    According to the Employment Forecast's Main Scenario, the number of gainfully employed persons aged 16–74 will increase from the year 2022 by approximately 461,000 to 5.7 million in 2040. The largest share of the increase will occur among foreign-born persons and among older persons, who are expected to work for more years than they do today.

  • Older people are expected to work longer

    According to the main scenario of Statistic Sweden’s latest employment projection, the number of employed persons aged 16–74 is expected to increase by about 691 000 to just over 5.5 million between 2016 and 2040. Older people are also expected to work longer hours than they do today. Foreign born persons are expected to make up most of the increase in employment.

  • Future employment of foreign born expected to increase

    According to the main scenario in Statistics Sweden's employment projection, the number of employed persons is expected to increase by 490 000 persons and will amount to roughly 4.9 million persons in 2035. Foreign born persons account for the largest part of the increase.
