Table potato production 8 percent lower than in 2022

The total production of table potatoes is estimated at 462 000 tonnes in 2023. This is 8 percent lower than in 2022. The total production in 2023 is 7 percent lower than the average in 2018–2022.
The yield per hectare, including new potatoes, is estimated at 31 800 kilos, which is 5 percent lower than in 2022. The crop area for table potatoes occupied 14 500 hectares. This is 560 hectares less than in the previous year and is the smallest crop area ever recorded in Sweden.
In Örebro and Dalarna County, total production of table potatoes was 37 and 29 percent less than last year. Production in Västra Götaland and Halland County was 14 percent lower than last year.
Total production of starch potatoes was on a par with 2022
The total production of starch potatoes is estimated at 336 700 tonnes, which is on a par with 2022 and the five-year average (2018-2022). These statistics include the production of starch potato for seed, which often have a lower yield potential.
The 2023 yield of starch potatoes is estimated at 42 400 kilos per hectare, which is on a par with both 2022 and the five-year average.
The cultivation area of starch potatoes decreased by 550 hectares compared with 2022 and occupied 7 950 hectares. Starch potatoes are cultivated mainly in Skåne County, Blekinge County, and Kalmar County.
