Investment Survey, first quarter 2023

Investments increased by SEK 7.3 billion or 8 percent in the first quarter of 2023 compared with the first quarter of 2022

The investments in several industries have shown growth since quarter 1 of last year. Investments by construction industry increased by 38 percent and amounted to SEK 2.9 billion. Investments by banking and insurance industry increased by 30 percent and amounted to SEK 5.7 billion.

Total investments in this quarter amounted to SEK 95.4 billion. The outcome of the Investment survey shows that enterprises investment increased by 8 percent compared with the first quarter of 2022.

The largest increase in investments come from the energy industry, which increased by SEK 2.4 billion. Investments in the energy industry amounted to SEK 11.3 billion during the first quarter of 2023. Investments by transportation industry increased by 32 percent and amounted to SEK 5.8 billion. Investments by energy related enterprises increased by 23 percent and amounted to SEK 8.7 billion. The lowest percentage increase has been seen in the industrial industry which have increased by 4 percent and amounted SEK 22.5 billion.

Investments by real estate industry decreased by 9 percent and amounted to SEK 28.6 billion during the first quarter of 2023.

Definitions and explanations

All the data in this statistical news is reported in current prices. All comparisons have been made with the corresponding quarter in 2022.

These statistics are based on data from Statistics Sweden’s Business Register database. All enterprises with at least 200 employees are included, while enterprises with between 20 and 199 employees are sampled. In some activities, enterprises with between 5 and 199 employees are sampled. Enterprises in the mining, quarrying and manufacturing industry with between 10 and 19 employees are taxed based on investment information from enterprises with between 20 and 49 employees.

The sectors included in this survey are SNI 05–49 (excl. 49.32), 51–53, 58, 61–63, 64.1, 65, 68 (excl. 68.204), 71–75, and 77–82 according to NACE Rev 2.
