Swedish enterprises invested SEK 415.5 billion in 2022

The investment rate among enterprises increased by 22 percent in 2022 compared with 2021.

Total investments amounted to SEK 415.5 billion in 2022, which corresponded to an increase by SEK 75.8 billion compared with 2021. The largest investments were made in the real estate industry, which amounted to SEK 146.3 billion and accounted for 35 percent of total investments. The highest percentage increase was recorded in the industry of banks and insurance companies, with an increase of 358 percent.

Most industries increased their investments in 2022 compared with 2021.The Bank and insurance industry increased the most, with 358 percent, to an investment level of SEK 18.3 billion. Trade in goods increased its investments by SEK 9.1 billion, corresponding to an increase by 54 percent. Energy, water and sewer industry, as well as the mining, quarrying and manufacturing industry increased their investments in 2022 with 41 and 23 percent respectively. The Information and communication industry decreased their investments by SEK 1.2 billion compared with 2021. As a percentage, Information and communication industry decreased by 2 percent to an investment level of SEK 19.7 billion.

Planned investments in 2023

According to the results of the Investment Survey, planned investments are expected to amount to SEK 341.4 billion in 2023. If this forecast is accurate, investments will decrease by 18 percent in 2023 compared with 2022.

Definitions and explanations

All the data in this statistical news is reported in current prices. Comparisons have been made with 2021.

These statistics are based on a sampling frame from Statistics Sweden’s Business Register database. All enterprises with at least 200 employees are included, while enterprises with between 20 and 199 employees are sampled. In some activities, enterprises with between 5 and 199 employees are sampled. Enterprises in the mining, quarrying and manufacturing industry with between 10 and 19 employees are estimated based on investment information from enterprises with between 20 and 49 employees in the same industry.

The sectors included in this survey are B–G, NACE 49 (excl. 49.32), 51–53, 58, 61–63, 64.1, 65, 68 (excl. 68.204), 71–75, and 77–82 according to NACE Rev 2.
