Investments increased by SEK 19.5 billion in the second quarter 2022

The investment rate of businesses increased in the second quarter compared with the first quarter of 2022. In total, the investments of the businesses amounted to SEK 106.4 billion during this period. Compared with the second quarter of 2021, investments increased by SEK 27.9 billion.

The outcome of the Investment Survey shows that the enterprises’ investments rose by 22 percent, corresponding to SEK 19.5 billion, in the second quarter of 2022 compared with the previous quarter. Most industries increased investments between the first and the second quarter of 2022. The energy, water and sewer industry noted the largest increase in percentage terms, at 57 percent, and amounted to an investment level of SEK 14.7 billion. The real estate industry increased investments by 26 percent to SEK 39.8 billion. The mining and quarrying and manufacturing industry increased investments by SEK 4.5 billion to SEK 22.9 billion. The trade in goods industry showed a decline of 13 percent compared with the first quarter of 2022.

The enterprises’ investments rose by 35 percent, corresponding to SEK 27.9 billion, in the second quarter of 2022 compared with the second quarter of 2021. Most industries increased their investments in the second quarter of 2022 compared with the second quarter of 2021. In percentage terms banks and insurance companies noted the largest increase, at 313 percent, and amounted to an investment level of SEK 4.2 billion. The energy, water and sewer industry increased investments by 78 percent, and amounted to an investment level of SEK 14.7 billion. The mining and quarrying and manufacturing industry increased investments by SEK 6.8 billion to SEK 22.9 billion. Real estate companies increased investments by 27 percent to SEK 39.8 billion. Information and communication companies decreased investments by 33 percent compared with the second quarter of 2021.

Investment survey second quarter 2022

Definitions and explanations

All the data in this statistical news is reported in current prices. All comparisons have been made with the corresponding quarter in 2020.

These statistics are based on data from Statistics Sweden’s Business Register database. All enterprises with at least 200 employees are included, while enterprises with between 20 and 199 employees are sampled. In some activities, enterprises with between 5 and 199 employees are sampled. Enterprises in the mining, quarrying and manufacturing industry sector with between 10 and 19 employees are taxed based on investment information from enterprises with between 20 and 49 employees.

The sectors included in this survey are SNI 05–49 (excl. 49.32), 51–53, 58, 61–63, 64.1, 65, 68 (excl. 68.204), 71–75, and 77–82 according to NACE Rev 2.
