Investments increased in the third quarter 2023

The investment rate of enterprises increased in the third quarter compared with the third quarter of 2023.

The outcome of the Investment Survey shows that the enterprises’ investments rose by 6 percent, corresponding to SEK 5.0 billion, in the third quarter of 2023 compared with the third quarter 2022. Total investments in the third quarter amounted to SEK 95.1 billion, which is SEK 15.0 billion, equivalent to 14 percent, less than in the second quarter of 2023.

Most industries increased their investments in the third quarter of 2023 compared with the third quarter of 20221. In percentage terms banks and insurance companies noted the largest increase, at 39 percent, and amounted to an investment level of SEK 5.0 billion. The business services industry increased investments by SEK 1.9 billion, equivalent to 38 percent. Transportation and storage industry decreased investments by 18 percent compared with the third quarter of 2022.

There is a decrease in investments for all industry groups between the second and third quarters of 2023. The largest decreases are in the real estate industry, which shows a decrease of 23 percent. The Information and Communication industry decreased their investments by 25 percent. The transport industry decreased their investments by 20 percent amounted to an investment level of SEK 4.9 billion.

Definitions and explanations

All the data in this statistical news is reported in current prices. All comparisons have been made with the corresponding quarter in 2022 and previous quarter 2023.

These statistics are based on data from Statistics Sweden’s Business Register database. All enterprises with at least 200 employees are included, while enterprises with between 20 and 199 employees are sampled. In some activities, enterprises with between 5 and 199 employees are sampled. Enterprises in the mining, quarrying, and manufacturing industry sector with between 10 and 19 employees are taxed based on investment information from enterprises with between 20 and 49 employees.

The sectors included in this survey are SNI 05–49 (excl. 49.32), 51–53, 58, 61–63, 64.1, 65, 68 (excl. 68.204), 71–75, and 77–82 according to NACE Rev 2.
