Orders in industry decreased in December

Total orders in industry decreased by 5.1 percent in December 2021 compared with November, in seasonally adjusted figures. Compared with December 2020, total orders in industry decreased by 7.7 percent in calendar-adjusted figures.
Compared with the previous month, the largest decrease was recorded in the motor vehicle industry, down 17.5 percent, while the largest increase was recorded in the electronic equipment industry, up 12.7 percent. Total orders in industry decreased on both the domestic and the export market compared with November. The domestic market decreased by 5.2 percent and the export market decreased by 5.1 percent compared with November, in seasonally adjusted figures.
Total orders in industry decreased on an annual basis
In March 2020, the COVID-19 outbreak started to significantly impact orders in industry, which should be taken into account when comparing annual development statistics.
On an annual basis, total orders in industry decreased by 7.7 percent compared with December 2020, in calendar-adjusted figures. Orders received from customers in Sweden decreased by 0.4 percent and orders received from customers abroad decreased by 11.9 percent.
Total orders in industry in November unrevised
The figures for December are preliminary. Since the previous publication, the seasonally adjusted monthly development in November compared with October is unrevised. The calendar-adjusted development in November compared with November of the previous year is unrevised.

Definitions and explanations
Revisions
When the orders index and the turnover index for a new month are published, the indices for previous months are also revised. The material is normally revised for between two and four months retroactively, depending on which month of the quarter is the reference month. The whole previous quarter is revised when publishing the first and second months of a quarter. Calendar adjusted figures, seasonally adjusted figures and trend figures are revised from January 2000 onwards.
