Orders in industry decreased in March

Total orders in industry decreased by 1.8 percent in March 2021 compared with February, in seasonally adjusted figures. Compared with March 2020, total orders in industry increased by 10.0 percent in calendar-adjusted figures.
A majority of the industrial subsectors recorded a positive development on a monthly basis. The largest increase was noted in the petroleum industry, up by 15.6 percent. Total orders in industry increased on the domestic market, while they decreased on the export market compared with February. The domestic market increased by 0.3 percent, while the export market decreased by 1.4 percent, in seasonally adjusted figures.
Total orders in industry increased on an annual basis
The COVID-19 outbreak started to significantly impact orders in industry in March 2020, which should be taken into account when comparing annual development statistics.
On an annual basis, total orders in industry increased by 10.0 percent compared with March 2020, in calendar-adjusted figures. Orders received from customers in Sweden increased by 3.8 percent and orders received from customers abroad increased by 15.3 percent.
Total orders in industry in February have been revised
The figures for March are preliminary. Since the previous publication, the seasonally adjusted monthly development in February compared with January has been revised upwards by 0.5 percentage points to 0.8 percent. The calendar-adjusted development in February compared with February of the previous year has been revised upwards by 1.3 percentage points to 6.6 percent.

Definitions and explanations
Revisions
When the orders index and the turnover index for a new month are published, the indices for previous months are also revised. The material is normally revised for between two and four months retroactively, depending on which month of the quarter is the reference month. The whole previous quarter is revised when publishing the first and second months of a quarter. Calendar adjusted figures, seasonally adjusted figures and trend figures are revised from January 2000 onwards.
