Business inventories increased in the first quarter of 2020

Swedish business inventories increased by SEK 6.2 billion in constant prices in the first quarter. This development corresponds to an increase of 1.2 percent in volume.

Industrial inventories increased

Inventories of finished goods and goods in progress increased by SEK 5.7 billion and inventories of input goods in total industry decreased by SEK 0.4 billion. This means that total inventories in industry increased by SEK 5.2 billion in the first quarter.

Trade inventories increased

Inventories in trade increased by SEK 1.0 billion in the first quarter. The largest increase was noted in wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, where inventories increased by SEK 0.7 billion. Inventories in retail trade, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles, increased by SEK 0.2 billion, and wholesale trade, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles, increased by SEK 0.1 billion.

Revisions

The figures for the first quarter 2020 are preliminary. Since the previous publication, the development in total industrial inventories in the fourth quarter 2019 has been revised downwards by SEK 0.9 billion to an increase of SEK 2.4 billion. Total trade inventories in the fourth quarter 2019 have been revised downwards by SEK 0.4 billion to a decrease of SEK 3.6 billion.
