Industrial production decreased in April

Industrial production decreased by 2.4 percent in April compared with March in seasonally adjusted figures. Compared with April 2016, industrial production increased by 0.8 percent in calendar adjusted figures.
Among the industry sub-sectors, the largest decrease was in the industry for motor vehicles compared with the previous month, while the largest increase was in the industry for printing. In the last three months, February to April 2017, industrial production increased by 1.3 percent compared with the previous three months, November 2016 to January 2017, in seasonally adjusted figures.
On an annual basis, industrial production increased by 0.8 percent in calendar adjusted figures. The strongest increase came from the industry for non-metallic mineral products while the largest decrease was seen in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.
The figures for April 2017 are preliminary. Since the previous publication, the change in industrial production in March compared with February has been revised downwards by 0.3 percentage points to a development of 0.0 percent. The change in production in March compared with the corresponding month in the previous year has been revised downwards by 0.2 percentage points to an increase of 3.6 percent.
It is relevant to analyse the seasonal and calendar adjustments for a better understanding of the statistics.

Development of Index of Service Production
Revisions
When the Industrial Production Index for a new month is published, the indices for previous months are also revised. The material is normally revised for two to four months retroactively, depending on which month of the quarter is the reference month. The whole previous quarter is revised when publishing the first and second months of a quarter. Calendar adjusted figures, seasonally adjusted figures and trend figures are revised from January 2000 onwards.
