Decreased industrial production in August

Industrial production decreased by 1.7 percent in August 2017 compared with July in seasonally adjusted figures. Compared with August 2016, industrial production increased by 7.3 percent in calendar adjusted figures.
This is the last time a statistical news article will be published for Industrial Production Index. From the next publication onward, Industrial Production Index will only be updated in the Statistical Database. Subscribers will thus no longer receive messages when new statistics are available.
Statistics Sweden will publish Production Value Index from 2017-11-06, the purpose of which is to measure the total private sector production in Sweden. The production in industry are included in Production Value Index.
Among the industry sub-sectors, the largest increase compared with the previous month was found in the electronics industry, while the largest decrease was in the industry for fabricated metal products. In the last three-month period, June–August 2017, industrial production increased by 0.8 percent compared with the previous three-month period, March–May 2017, in seasonally adjusted figures.
Compared with August in the previous year, industrial production increased by 7.3 percent in calendar adjusted figures. On an annual basis, a majority of the industry’s sub-sectors showed a positive development. The strongest increase was seen in the motor vehicle industry, which increased by 39.4 percent.
The figures for August 2017 are preliminary. Since the previous publication, the change in industrial production in July compared with June have been revised downwards by 0.2 percentage points to a decrease of 1.1 percent. The change in production in July compared with the corresponding month in the previous year has been revised downwards by 0.1 percentage points to an increase of 5.2 percent.
It is relevant to analyse the seasonal and calendar adjustments for a better understanding of the statistics.

Development of Index of Service Production
Revisions
When the Industrial Production Index for a new month is published, the indices for previous months are also revised. The material is normally revised for two to four months retroactively, depending on which month of the quarter is the reference month. The whole previous quarter is revised when publishing the first and second months of a quarter. Calendar adjusted figures, seasonally adjusted figures and trend figures are revised from January 2000 onwards.
