Business inventories decreased in the third quarter of 2021

Swedish business inventories decreased by SEK 3.2 billion in constant prices in the third quarter. This development corresponds to a decrease of 0.6 percent in volume.
Total inventories in industry decreased by SEK 5.0 billion in the third quarter, which corresponds to a decrease of 2.0 percent in volume. Inventories in trade increased by SEK 1.7 billion in the third quarter, which corresponds to an increase of 0.6 percent in volume.
Industrial inventories decreased
Inventories of finished goods and goods in progress decreased by SEK 6.9 billion and inventories of input goods in total industry increased by SEK 1.9 billion. This means that total inventories in industry decreased by SEK 5.0 billion in the third quarter.
Trade inventories increased
Inventories in trade increased by SEK 1.7 billion in the third quarter. The largest increase was noted in wholesale trade, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles, in which inventories increased by SEK 4.1 billion. Inventories in retail trade, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles, increased by SEK 1.2 billion, while wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles decreased by SEK 3.6 billion.
Revisions
The figures for the third quarter 2021 are preliminary. Since the previous publication, the development in total industrial inventories in the second quarter 2021 has been revised upwards by SEK 1.3 billion to a decrease of SEK 4.9 billion. Total trade inventories in the second quarter 2021 have been revised downwards by SEK 7.3 billion to a decrease of SEK 14.1 billion.

As from the previous quarter, the new Business inventories survey has replaced the surveys Inventories in trade and services and Industrial inventories. The results of the new survey are comparable to the results of the old survey, since the new survey and Industrial inventories have a similar design.
