Business inventories decreased in the second quarter of 2021

Swedish business inventories decreased by SEK 13.0 billion in constant prices in the second quarter. This development corresponds to a decrease of 2.4 percent in volume.
Total inventories in industry decreased by SEK 6.2 billion in the second quarter, which corresponds to a decrease of 2.4 percent in volume. Inventories in trade decreased by SEK 6.8 billion in the second quarter, which corresponds to a decrease of 2.4 percent in volume.
Industrial inventories decreased
Inventories of finished goods and goods in progress decreased by SEK 4.8 billion and inventories of input goods in total industry decreased by SEK 1.3 billion. This means that total inventories in industry decreased by SEK 6.2 billion in the second quarter.
Trade inventories decreased
Inventories in trade decreased by SEK 6.8 billion in the second quarter. The largest decrease was noted in wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, in which inventories decreased by SEK 5.7 billion. Inventories in retail trade, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles, decreased by SEK 3.3 billion, while wholesale trade, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles increased by SEK 2.2 billion.
New survey
As from the current quarter, the new Business inventories survey has replaced the surveys Inventories in trade and services and Industrial inventories. The results of the new survey are comparable to the results of the old survey, since the new survey and Industrial inventories have a similar design. Furthermore, Industrial inventories and Inventories in trade and services used the same underlying methods.
Revisions
The previous surveys Inventories in trade and services and Industrial inventories are no longer produced. There are therefore no revised results for the first quarter.
