Lowest cost per pupil for many years

The cost per pupil in primary school has now decreased for the first time since 2011. Statistics for 2022 show that the cost per pupil is the lowest since 2018. The cost per pupil is also decreasing in preschool and upper secondary school.

The main findings are summarised below:

  • Preschool – the total cost per child decreased for the first time since 2008 and is now the lowest since 2016.
  • Primary school – the total cost per pupil has decreased by 3.7 percent compared to 2021 and is now the lowest since 2018.
  • Upper secondary school – the total cost per pupil decreased for the second consecutive year and has not been lower since 2014.
  • Study associations – the total cost continues to decrease sharply despite an increase in the number of participants.
  • Folk high schools – the total cost shows a slight decrease compared to 2021.
