Three in four pupils in higher education preparatory programmes intend to continue studies

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2020-03-06 9.30

In autumn 2019, around 75 percent of pupils in upper secondary school year 3 in higher education preparatory programmes intended to continue their studies. The corresponding percentage among pupils in vocational programmes was around 30 percent. There were no differences between the sexes who attended higher education preparatory programmes and vocational programmes.

Among all pupils, regardless of programme, around 70 percent of the women and just over 50 percent of the men wished to study at a university within three years. More women in total wish to undertake further studies, which to a large extent is because more women attend higher education preparatory programmes, in which it is more common to want to continue studying.

Substantially larger share among foreign born pupils wish to study further

The difference is mainly due to the fact that a larger percentage of foreign born pupils wish to continue their studies regardless of the type of programme.
