Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2024-06-05 8.00

Half of all enterprises engaged in some type of innovation activity during 2020-2022 and 48 percent were innovative. The proportion of innovation active as well as innovative enterprises was higher in the service sector than in the industry sector, but the large industrial enterprises were more innovation active and innovative than the corresponding size class in the service sector.

Research and innovation are important contributing factors to both economic growth and social change. The innovation statistics aim to create an understanding of business innovation in Sweden and internationally. This report presents a selection of the results from the Community Innovation Survey 2020–2022 and provides an overall picture of enterprises’ innovation activities, product and process innovations, innovation collaborations and environment-related innovations.

The report shows, among other things, that the need for innovation activities was low among the enterprises that were not innovatively active. Of the non-innovative enterprises, 86 percent responded that they did not see a need and 14 percent that the lack of innovation was due to a lack of resources or for some reason other than a lack of resources.
