Consolidated debt in percent of GDP

Consolidated debt in percent of GDP

Definitions and explanations

The figure shows the changes in the consolidated debt for the sectors S11 Non-financial corporations, S14 Households, S15 Non-profit institutions serving households, S13 General Government and a summation of S11, S14 and S15. It corresponds to Eurostat’s MIP (Macroeconomic Imbalance Procedure) - indicator Private debt in percent of GDP-consolidated annual data. The financial instruments included are short-term securities, long-term securities and loans. The instruments not included are deposits, shares, other equity, mutual funds, insurance savings, trade credits and other accounts receivable/payable. As far as the general government sector is concerned, it is the nominal debt that is presented and not the market value debt, which is the norm for the Financial Accounts and shown for the other sectors in the figure. In addition, deposits are also included in the liability for general government. This corresponds to Eurostat's MIP (Macroeconomic Imbalance Procedure) - indicator for general government gross debt (EDP) in percent of GDP-consolidated annual data. Consolidation means that assets/debts that the sector has towards its own sector are deducted. The values for the debt of general government refer to Maastricht debt, at nominal value, and is updated in connection to the financial accounts publication referring to quarters 1 and 3 every year. In connection to quarters 2 and 4, the Maastricht debt is updated in connection to EDP, i.e. last March and last September each year (as well as, possible updates around 20 April and 20 October). Thus, more updated data for general government may be available on the website for EDP, http://www.scb.se/NR0108/, during certain periods. Thus, more updated data for general government may be available on the website for EDP during certain periods.
