Fund wealth rises
Statistical news from Statistics Sweden and Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority 2022-02-24 8.00
Total fund wealth amounted to SEK 6 739 billion at the end of the fourth quarter of 2021. This is an increase of SEK 617 billion compared to the previous quarter.
During the last quarter of the year, the development of Swedish funds' managed capital was strong compared to previous quarters. Fund wealth rose by just over 10 percent, which is the second largest increase in the past 5 years, only about 2 percentage points less than the record, which was recorded in the second quarter 2020 (then 12%).
Fourth quarter in brief:
- Equity funds accounted for the largest nominal increase as their assets under management increased by SEK 422 billion compared to the previous period.
- The second largest nominal increase is seen in the mixed funds, which increased their fund wealth by SEK 99 billion.
- Households' net sales of equity funds continued and amounted to approximately SEK 2 billion.
- Apart from equity funds, net investments were positive for households in all other fund categories and their total net investments in funds amounted to SEK 9 billion.
- The most popular fund category was Fund-of-Funds, where households' net purchases amounted to SEK 8 billion.
- Households' total holdings in Swedish funds amounted to SEK 1 237 billion, which is an increase of SEK 125 billion from the previous period.
Swedish krona exchange rate
The average price for one Euro in the quarter was SEK 10.13 compared to SEK 10.20 in the previous quarter. However, it weakened against the US dollar at an average price of SEK 8.85 compared to SEK 8.65 in the previous quarter. The effect of these rates is that the funds' investments in Euro decrease in value and investments in US dollars increase in value in terms of Swedish Kronor.
Number of active funds in the statistics
During the fourth quarter, 18 new funds were started and 5 previously active funds were closed. A total of 799 active Swedish funds were listed, which is a net increase of 13 compared to previous quarters.

The statistics include investment funds registered in Sweden. Both mutual funds and special funds are included in the statistics. The other funds category includes funds that could not be classified under any other category, such as Hedge Funds.
The Swedish financial companies sector includes, for example, mutual fund insurance and premium pension savings and holdings in managed depots that may have households as the final owner.
