Increased investments in bond funds

At the end of the fourth quarter of 2023, the total fund assets in Swedish funds amounted to SEK 6 883 billion. This represents an increase of SEK 404 billion, equivalent to 6.2%, compared to the previous quarter. The net investments in bond funds are increasing with 523%, the highest quarterly increase since 2014.
Fourth quarter in brief:
- Total net investments amounted to SEK 35.9 billion.
- Equity Funds had the highest total net investments, totaling SEK 34.5 billion.
- The net investments in bond funds had the highest percentual increase, 523% (SEK 21 billion) which is the highest quarterly increase for bond funds since the fourth quarter of 2014.
- Money market funds, Fund-of-funds and Other funds were the fund categorys with negative net investments.
- Net investments by foreign owners amounted to SEK 2.3 billion during the quarter.
- The investments of Swedish funds in equity increased by 8% compared to the previous quarter (SEK 359 billion). The main increase is within the sector of listed non-financial companies, where investments increased with 18% (SEK 170 billio).
- Investments in interest-bearing securities increased with SEK 66.8 billion. The increase is mainly in foreign bonds, + 10 % (SEK 20 billion).
The exchange rate of the Swedish krona
The average exchange rate for one Euro during the quarter was SEK 11.48 compared to SEK 11.76 in the previous quarter. The average exchange rate for one US dollar was SEK 10.69 compared to SEK 10.81 in the previous quarter.
Number of active funds in the statistics
During the fourth quarter, 21 new funds were added and 6 previously active funds were terminated or absorbed. In total, 857 active Swedish funds were listed, which is 15 more than the previous quarter.

The statistics include investment funds registered in Sweden. Both mutual funds and special funds are included in the statistics. The other funds category includes funds that could not be classified under any other category, such as Hedge Funds.
The Swedish financial companies sector includes, for example, mutual fund insurance and premium pension savings and holdings in managed depots that may have households as the final owner.
