Fund wealth increased
Statistical news from Statistics Sweden and Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority 2020-08-21 9.30
Total fund wealth amounted to SEK 4 554 billion at the end of June 2020. This is an increase of SEK 476 billion compared with the previous quarter and is the largest increase between two quarters since 1998 when these statistics were first produced.
A brief description of developments in the second quarter:
- Net investments amounted to SEK 25 billion.
- The largest net investments, SEK 11 billion, were noted in the household sector.
- Fund wealth increased the most, by SEK 338 billion, in the Swedish financial enterprises sector. Premium pensions accounted for SEK 151 billion of this increase.
- Foreign owners’ holdings increased by SEK 18 billion.
- Bond and money market funds was the only fund category in which value decreased, by SEK 4 billion. Net sales of SEK 10 billion were a contributing factor to this decline.
- The largest increase in the second quarter, SEK 387 billion, was in the fund category equity funds, and was the result of a strong development in the stock market and net investments amounting to SEK 44 billion.
- The second largest increase, SEK 41 billion, was noted in mixed funds, followed by SEK 40 billion in fund-of-funds.
- Households’ directly-owned fund wealth amounted to SEK 830 billion in the second quarter of 2020, which is SEK 95 billion more than in the previous quarter and SEK 16 billion more than in the second quarter of 2019.
- For the household sector the largest inflow, SEK 69 billion net, came from equity funds, and the smallest inflow, SEK 136 million, came from bond and money market funds.
- In terms of total fund wealth in the household sector, the equity funds category remains unequivocally the largest category, with SEK 428 billion, followed by SEK 150 billion in fund-in-funds.
Only minor changes in the Swedish krona exchange rate
In the second quarter of 2020, the average exchange rate for one euro was strengthened by SEK 0.01 compared to the first quarter of 2020, and amounted to SEK 10.65. The Swedish krona was weakened against the US dollar, with an average exchange rate of SEK 9.68, compared with SEK 9.67 in the previous quarter.
Number of active funds in the statistics
There were 764 active funds in the second quarter, which is 15 funds more than in the previous quarter.

Definitions and explanations
These statistics cover Swedish-registered investment funds. Both mutual funds and special funds are included in the statistics. The category ‘Other funds’ includes funds that could not be classified according to any other category, such as hedge funds.
The Swedish financial enterprises sector includes unit-linked funds and premium pension savings, as well as holdings by financial corporations that may have households as final owners.
