Borrowing in debt securities increased

At the end of February, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 8 983 billion, up by SEK 56 billion from January. This increase is mainly due to increased borrowing in bonds denominated in euro and Swedish krona.

Developments in February 2022 in brief

Liabilities increased in bonds and decreased for money market instruments

  • At the end of February, liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK
    8 983 billion, of which bonds accounted for 80 percent and money market instruments accounted for 20 percent.
  • During the month, liabilities in debt securities decreased by SEK 21 billion in money market instruments and increased by SEK 77 billion in bonds.
  • At the end of February, liabilities in bonds denominated in SEK amounted to 4 480 billion and in euro to SEK 1 683 billion. This is an increase by SEK 32 billion and SEK 57 billion respectively during the month.
  • The annual growth rate for total debt securities liabilities was 6.7 percent, down by 0.2 percentage points compared with January.
  • In February, non-financial corporations and secured debt securities from monetary financial institutions accounted for the largest increase in liabilities in debt securities, increased by SEK 26 billion and SEK 20 billion respectively.
  • The central government (via the Swedish National Debt Office), on the other hand, decreased borrowing by SEK 10 billion during the month.

Maturity structure

  • Debt securities valued at SEK 2 370 billion will reach maturity within six months. Approximately 47 percent are denominated in foreign currency, mainly US dollars and euros.
  • Securities from monetary financial institutions accounted for approximately half of the total maturity value within six months, valued at SEK 1 218 billion.
