Borrowing in debt securities increased

At the end of October, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 9 215 billion, up by SEK 143 billion from September. This increase is mainly due to increased borrowing in bonds and money market instruments denominated in SEK during the month.
Developments in October 2022 in brief
Increased liabilities in bonds and money market instruments
- At the end of October, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 9 215 billion, of which bonds accounted for 79 percent and money market instruments accounted for 21 percent.
- During the month, liabilities increased for bonds and money market instruments by SEK 10 billion and SEK 133 billion respectively.
- The annual growth rate for total debt securities liabilities was 7.1 percent, increased by 2.1 percentage points from September.
Increased borrowing from monetary institutions
- At the end of October, monetary institutions total liabilities amounted to SEK 5 511 billion, up by SEK 108 billion from September.
- Unsecured debt securities from monetary institutions accounted for the largest increase during the month, increased by SEK 97 billion. It was mainly due to money market instruments denominated in pound at a value of SEK 56 billion.
- Monetary financial institutions also increased their borrowing in secured debt securities, by SEK 11 billion during the month. It was mainly due to bonds denominated in SEK.
- Also non-financial corporations increased their borrowing during the month by SEK 34 billion.
Maturity structure
- Debt securities valued at SEK 2 439 billion will reach maturity within six months. More than half are denominated in foreign currency, mainly US dollars and euros.
- Unsecured debt securities from monetary financial institutions accounts for the majority of the maturity value within six months, SEK 1 190 billion, in which the majority is issued in foreign currency, mainly US dollars. For other sectors, the maturity value is mainly in Swedish kronor.
