Decreased borrowing in debt securities

At the end of September, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 9 492 billion, down by SEK 117 billion from August. This decrease is mainly due to decreased liabilities in covered bonds, in SEK.
Developments in September 2024 in brief
Decreased liabilities in both money market instruments and bonds
- At the end of September, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 9 492 billion, of which bonds accounted for 79 percent and money market instruments accounted for 21 percent.
- During the month, liabilities decreased in both money market instruments and bonds by SEK 99 billion and SEK 18 billion respectively.
- The liabilities denominated in Swedish Crowns decreased by a total of SEK 136 billion and increased in liabilities denominated in foreign currency by SEK 19 billion. This is largely due to maturities in covered bonds.
- The annual growth rate for total debt securities liabilities was -3.6 percent in September, up by 2 percentage points compared to August.
Decreased borrowing for monetary financial institutions
- In September, monetary financial institutions accounted for the largest decrease in debt, and decreased their liabilities by SEK 74 billion. The decrease was mainly due to net maturity in covered bonds, denominated in SEK.
- Sveriges Riksbank, and non-financial institutions also decreased their liabilities in debt securities during the month.
Maturity structure
- Debt securities valued at SEK 1 578 billion will reach maturity within six months excluding certificates issued by Sveriges Riksbank. 70 percent of these are denominated in foreign currency, mainly US dollars and euros.
- Debt securities from Monetary financial institutions accounted for 73 percent of the total maturity value within six months (excluding certificates issued by Sveriges Riksbank), SEK 1 149 billion, of which the majority is issued in foreign currency.
