Increased borrowing in debt securities

At the end of July, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 9 843 billion, down by SEK 47 billion from June. This decrease is mainly due to a a stronger Swedish crown, mainly compared to the dollar.

Decreased liabilities in bonds

  • At the end of July total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 9 843 billion, of which bonds accounted for 77 percent and money market instruments accounted for 23 percent.
  • During the month, liabilities in bonds decreased by SEK 66 billion while it increased in money markets instrument by SEK 19 billion.
  • The liabilities denominated in Swedish Crowns increased by a total of SEK 15 billion during the month while the liabilities denominated in foreign currencies decreased by SEK 62 billion.
  • The annual growth rate for total debt securities liabilities was 10.6 percent, down by 0.1 percentage points compared to June.

Largest decrease in non-covered bonds

  • In July, non-covered bonds issued by monetary financial institutions accounted for the largest decrease in liabilities in debt securities, decreased by SEK 52 billion in total. The decresase was mainly an effect of a stronger Swedish crown compared to the dollar and the euro.
  • Non-financial corporations also decreased liabilities, by SEK 13 billion in total.
  • Covered bonds issued by monetary financial institutions, on the other hand, increased their liabilities by SEK 13 billion, mainly due to net issues in papers denominated in Swedish crowns.

Maturity structure

  • Debt securities valued at SEK 2 705 billion will reach maturity within six months. Almost half of these are denominated in foreign currency, mainly US dollars and euros.
  • Debt securities from monetary financial institutions accounted for almost half of the total maturity value within six months, SEK 1 260 billion, in which the majority is issued in foreign currency.
