The number of hours worked increased

In July 2018, there were 5 281 000 employed persons aged 15–74, not seasonally adjusted. This was an increase of 117 000 persons compared with July 2017. The number of hours worked averaged 102.3 million per week, an increase of 4.5 percent in calendar adjusted figures. Furthermore, there were 339 000 unemployed persons, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.0 percent, a decrease of 0.6 percentage points. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a continued increase in the employment rate and an unemployment rate amounting to 6.2 percent.

Labour Force Surveys

In July 2018, there were 5 281 000 employed persons aged 15─74, not seasonally adjusted, which was an increase of 117 000 compared with July 2017. The number of employed women was 2 503 000, an increase of 42 000. The number of employed men increased by 75 000 to 2 778 000. The employment rate was 70.8 percent, an increase of 1.0 percentage points. Among men, the employment rate increased by 1.4 percentage points to 73.3 percent. Among women, the employment rate was 68.2 percent. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a continued increase in the number of employed persons and in the employment rate compared with recent months. In July 2018, there were 5 116 000 employed persons, which corresponds to an employment rate of 68.6 percent.

The number of employees aged 15─74 increased by 95 000 to 4 777 000 in July 2018, compared with July 2017, not seasonally adjusted. Among women, the number of employees was 2 363 000, and among men the number of employees increased by 63 000 to 2 414 000. The number of permanent employees increased by 113 000 to 3 873 000 in the same period. Among women, the number of permanent employees was 1 865 000. Among men, the number of permanent employees was 2 008 000, an increase of 86 000. There were 904 000 temporary employees. Compared with nearby months, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows an increase in the total number of employees. The number of permanent employees increased and the number of temporary employees decreased.

On average, the number of hours worked in July 2018 amounted to 102.3 million per week, not seasonally adjusted, an increase of 4.5 percent in calendar adjusted figures. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows an increase in the number of hours worked per week compared with recent months. On average, the number of hours worked amounted to 155.7 million per week in July 2018.

In July 2018, the number of unemployed persons aged 15─74 was 339 000, not seasonally adjusted. This corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.0 percent, a decrease of 0.6 percentage points. There were 173 000 unemployed men and 166 000 unemployed women. The unemployment rate was 5.9 percent among men, a decrease of 0.8 percentage points. Among women, the unemployment rate was 6.2 percent. Among young people aged 15─24 there were 103 000 unemployed and the unemployment rate was 13.7 percent. Among persons aged 15–74, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows small changes both in the number of unemployed persons and in the unemployment rate compared with nearby months. There were 340 000 unemployed persons in July 2018, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 6.2 percent. Among young people aged 15─24, smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows small changes in the number of unemployed persons, while the unemployment rate shows a slight increase. There were 102 000 unemployed young people, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 16.5 percent.
