Temporary employed women continues to decrease

In June 2024, the number of employed people amounted to 5 429 000, not seasonally adjusted. The number of temporary employed women amounted to 377 000, a decrease of 59 000 people compared to June 2023. The average number of hours worked per week was 158.9 million. The number of unemployed people amounted to 566 000 which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 9.4 percent. Seasonally adjusted and smoothed data show an increase in both the number of employed people and in the employment rate. According to seasonally adjusted and smoothed data, the unemployment rate was 8.3 percent.

- The number of temporary employed women continues to decrease for the third month in a row. The labour market situation remains subdued in June, says Elin Ottosson Bixo, statistician at the Labour Force Surveys at SCB.

Labour force

In June 2024, the number of people in the labour force aged 15–74 amounted to 5 995 000, not seasonally adjusted. The number of women in the labour force was 2 860 000 and the number of men amounted to 3 135 000. The labour force participation rate amounted to 79.0 percent. For women the participation rate was 76.7 percent and for men it was 81.3 percent.

Seasonally adjusted and smoothed data shows an increase in both the number and the share of persons in the labour force compared with recent months. The number of people in the labor force amounted to 5 738 000, which corresponds to a participation rate of 75.6 percent.

Employment

In June 2024 the number of employed people aged 15-74 amounted to 5 429 000, not seasonally adjusted. The number of employed women was 2 577 000, and the number of employed men was 2 852 000. The employment rate amounted to 71.5 percent. The employment rate among women amounted to 69.1 percent, and for men it was 73.9 percent.

For seasonally adjusted and smoothed data, the number of employed persons aged 15–74 amounted to 5 261 000 and the employment rate was 69.3 percent. This is an increase in both the number and the share of employed persons compared with recent months.

Employees

In June 2024, there were 4 878 000 employees, according to not seasonally adjusted data. The number of employees among women was 2 421 000 and the number employees among men amounted to 2 458 000.The number of permanent employees amounted to 4 133 000. The number of permanent employed women amounted to 2 043 000, an increase of 69 000 people, and the number of permanent employed men was 2 090 000. The number of temporary employees was 745 000. The number of temporary employed women was 377 000, a decrease of 59 000 people. The number of temporary employed men amounted to 368 000.

For seasonally adjusted and smoothed data, the number of employees increased compared to recent months and amounted to 4 755 000. The number of permanent employees was 4 114 000 and the number of temporary employees was 642 000. Compared with recent months, seasonally adjusted and smoothed data shows an increase in the number of permanent employees.

Hours worked

The average number of total hours worked in June 2024 amounted to 158.9 million per week, according to not seasonally adjusted data.

According to seasonally adjusted and smoothed data the average number of hours worked was 156.8 million per week.

Unemployment

In June 2024, the number of unemployed people aged 15–74 years amounted to 566 000, not seasonally adjusted. This corresponds to an unemployment rate of 9.4 percent. The number of unemployed women amounted to 283 000 and the number of unemployed men was 283 000. The unemployment rate for women amounted to 9.9 percent and for men it was 9.0 percent. The number of long-term unemployed, unemployed for at least 27 weeks, was 150 000, which is an increase of 41 000. The number of long-term unemployed women was 80 000, which is an increase of 34 000, and the number of long-term unemployed men was 71 000. The number of unemployed young people aged 15–24 amounted to 259 000. The youth unemployment rate was 29.5 percent. Among the unemployed young people, 135 000 were full-time students.

According to seasonally adjusted and smoothed data the number of unemployed people aged 15-74 amounted to 477 000, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 8.3 percent. Among young people aged 15–24 the number of unemployed amounted to 166 000. This corresponds to an unemployment rate of 23.9 percent.

Unused labour supply

Unemployed people, underemployed people and latent job seekers together constitute the unused labour supply. In June 2024, the unused labour supply averaged 28.3 million hours per week. This corresponds to 708 000 full-time employments with 40-hour work weeks.
