New analysis of the views of foreign born and Swedish born persons on their municipality and the society

Foreign born persons often have a more positive view of how municipal services work and agree to a larger extent that inhabitants have good opportunities to influence operations of the municipality and the content of political decisions, compared to Swedish born persons. At the same time, foreign born persons feel less safe in their municipality and have lower trust in other people.
In a new report from Statistics Sweden, the views on society are compared between foreign born and Swedish born persons. The report is based on Statistics Sweden’s citizen survey conducted in 2023. The survey includes questions about living environment, school and municipal services, community safety, equality, integration, influence and trust.
A few results from the report are:
- Foreign born persons have a more positive view than Swedish born persons on how for example social services work and on police presence in their municipality.
- Those who have lived less than 10 years in Sweden tend to have a more positive view than those who have lived in Sweden for a longer time.
- Foreign born persons feel less safe in their neighborhood than Swedish born persons and are more worried about becoming victims of different types of crimes.
- A lower share of foreign born persons think that people, in general, can be trusted, compared to Swedish born. The share is also lower among those born outside of Europe than those born in Europe.
