Sweden’s population was 10 587 700 inhabitants at the end of 2024, of which 49.7 percent were women and 50.3 percent were men. The population increased by 36 000 people in 2024, which corresponds to 0.3 percent compared to the previous year. The increase in the population is mainly explained by the fact that there were 29 700 more immigrations than emigrations, as well as 7 200 more births than deaths during the year.

In 2024, 98 500 children were born in Sweden. Boys accounted for 51.4 percent and girls accounted for 48.6 percent of the newborns. The number of births decreased by 1 600 children or 1.6 percent compared to the previous year. It was the lowest number of births since 2002.
