Construction Cost Index for buildings, October 2017:

Construction costs increased by 2.7 per cent on an annual basis

Construction cost index for multi-dwelling buildings rose by 0.2 percent between September and October 2017. Factor prices increased by 2.7 percent on an annual basis.

The development in the last month

The Construction cost index rose by 0.2 percent between September and October 2017. During the corresponding period of 2016, the Construction cost index rose with 0,1 percent. The contractor's costs, which weigh more than 82 percent of the Cosruction cost index, increased by 0.2 percent between September and October 2017.

Among the contractor's costs the transport, fuel and electricity group increased. Also electric material and building materials increased, overheads decreased for the first time since mars. Wages, salaries, and machinery remained unchanged.

Reinforcement steel and iron and steel both rose. Timber, concrete products and white goods rose while electric material decreased. Other material groups had unchanged prices.

Investor costs increased by 0.4 percent between September and October 2017. This is due to increased interest expenses.

The development in the past year

The factor price index and the contractor's costs, both increased by 2.7 percent between September 2016 and October 2017. Entrepreneur's costs increased the total index by 2.2 percentage points.

The transport, fuel and electricity group increased most of the contractor's costs, but also the machines, building materials, overheads and wages groups rose. Building material costs rose by 3.0 percent. The largest increases in the building material group was reinforcement steel and iron and steel, which increased by 11.6 percent and 7.1 percent, respectively. The cost of other building material groups also increased.

Investor costs rose by 3.2 percent between October 2016 and October 2017.
