The inflation rate according to the CPI with a fixed interest rate (CPIF) was 1.9 percent in April 2018, down from 2.0 percent in March 2018. The CPIF increased by 0.4 percent from March to April. In the corresponding period last year, the CPIF increased by 0.6 percent. The inflation rate according to the CPI was 1.7 percent in April 2018.
The increase in the CPI from March to April 2018 was mainly due to higher prices for recreation and culture (1.6 percent), which contributed 0.2 percentage point, of which 0.1 percentage point was due to higher book prices (48.9 percent). Higher prices of fruits (4.5 percent), fuel and lubricants (4.1 percent) and international flights (8.7 percent) contributed upwards by 0.1 percentage point each.
These increases were offset by lower electricity prices (-3.2 percent), which affected the CPI downwards by 0.1 percentage point in April.
The CPI for April 2018 was 327.10 (1980=100).
The inflation rate according to the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) was 1.8 percent in April 2018, down from 2.0 percent in March. The HICP increased by 0.4 percent from March to April. In the corresponding period last year, the HICP increased by 0.6 percent.
