In December 2016, the inflation rate according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 1.7 percent, up from 1.4 percent in November. The CPI rose by 0.5 percent from November to December 2016. In the corresponding period last year, the CPI increased by 0.1 percent.
The upward contribution to change in the CPI from November to December 2016 was mainly due to a rise in prices for transport services (9.1 percent), which contributed 0.3 percentage points. Higher prices on food (0.9 percent), fuels (4.2 percent) and package holidays (4.8 percent) each contributed 0.1 percentage points.
The downward contribution was mainly due to lower prices for electricity (-3.0 percent) which contributed 0.1 percentage points.
The CPI in December 2016 was 319.68 (1980=100).
The inflation rate according to the CPIF (CPI with a fixed interest rate) was 1.9 percent in December, up from 1.6 percent in November. The CPIF rose by 0.5 percent from November to December 2016. In the corresponding period last year, the CPIF increased by 0.2 percent.
The inflation rate according to the HICP (Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices) was 1.7 percent in December 2016, up from 1.3 percent in November. The HICP rose by 0.5 percent from November to December 2016. In the corresponding period last year, the HICP increased by 0.2 percent.
