The inflation rate according to the CPI with a fixed interest rate (CPIF) was 2.2 percent in December 2018 (2.1 percent in November). The CPIF increased by 0.4 percent from November to December. In the corresponding period last year, the CPIF also increased by 0.4 percent. The inflation rate according to the CPI was 2.0 percent in December, unchanged from November.
The increase in the CPI from November to December 2018 was mainly due to a price increase on transport services (7.9 percent), which contributed 0.3 percentage point upwards, of which international flights (36.1 percent) accounted for 0.2 percentage point. Price increases on package holidays (8.1 percent) and food (0.7 percent) contributed 0.1 percentage point each upwards from November to December 2018.
The increase was offset by lower prices on fuels and lubricants (-4.0 percent), which contributed 0.1 percentage point downwards.
The CPI for December 2018 was 331.87 (1980=100).
The inflation rate according to the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) was 2.2 percent in December 2018, up from 2.1 percent in November. The HICP increased by 0.5 percent from November to December. In the corresponding period last year, the HICP increased by 0.4 percent.
