The Producer Price Index, that is, producer prices on the domestic and export markets together, increased by 10.1 percent from September 2017 to September 2018. In the same period, prices increased by 15.2 percent on the import market and by 13.4 percent on the export market.
Changes during the last year
The prices on the import market have increased by 15.2 percent from September 2017 to September 2018. This was the largest annual rate since October 1993. Higher import prices of crude oil and electricity contributed to the increase in prices in the past year, with annual rates of 58.8 percent and 71.4 percent respectively. In September, the annual rate on the export market was 13.4 percent. Increased export prices on electricity (51.0 percent), pulp, paper and paperboard (24.6 percent) and basic metals (16.5 percent) all contributed to the rise in the past year on the export market. Domestic supply prices have increased by 11.1 percent on an annual basis. On the domestic market, prices have increased by 7.0 percent. The annual rate for electricity prices on the domestic market was 33.2 percent.
Changes during the last month
Producer prices increased by 1.2 percent between August and September. In the same period, prices increased by 2.9 percent on the import market and by 1.7 percent on the export market under the influence of a weaker Swedish krona. On the domestic market, prices increased by 0.6 percent. Domestic supply prices, that is, producer prices on the domestic and import markets together, increased by 1.8 percent between August and September.
The main contributor to the upturn on the import market was increased crude oil price (11.2 percent). Computer, electronic and optical products, chemical and chemical products, motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers and machinery and equipment also contributed significantly to the upturn. On the export market, higher prices on chemical and chemical products, motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers and machinery and equipment contributed substantially to the upturn. On the domestic market, a seasonally normal price increase on district heating contributed to the rise.
The increase was offset by lower electricity prices on all markets.

Changes in exchange rates from August to September 2018
An appreciation or depreciation of the Swedish currency has a tendency to lower or raise export and import prices in Swedish krona. According to Swedish Customs’ exchange rates, the Swedish krona depreciated against the US dollar by 2.8 percent, against the Danish krona and the euro by 2.2 percent, and against the British pound by 1.1 percent. The price of the Norwegian krona remained unchanged compared with August.

New product classification
Producer and Import Price Index is reported in accordance with both SPIN 2007 and SPIN 2015 in the statistical database. Both product classifications will be available during 2018. In 2019, price indices will only be available in accordance with SPIN 2015. Users are recommended to start using SPIN 2015. The differences between the two classifications are minor.
