Services prices decreased by 0.3 percent from the first to the second quarter of 2020

The Services Producer Price Index decreased by 0.3 percent from the first to the second quarter of 2020. Since the second quarter of 2019, the Services Producer Price Index has increased by 0.7 percent. The corresponding annual rate in the previous quarter was 2.3 percent.
Changes during the last quarter
The main contributions in the second quarter 2020 came from lower prices on rental of premises for shops as well as hotel accommodation services. The downward contribution was 0.3 and 0.2 percentage points respectively.
Computer programming, consultancy and related services, telecommunications services, rental of premises for hotels and restaurants, management consulting services and advertising services all contributed downwards by 0.1 percentage point.
The quarterly decrease was offset to a certain extent by an incline in prices on air transport services and support services for transportation, which contributed upwards by 0.2 percentage points each.
Lower prices on rental of premises for shops and rental of premises for hotels and restaurants is mainly due to property owners lowering rental costs for some tenants.
Changes in the last year
Prices on air transport services increased by 18.0 percent from the second quarter of 2019 to the second quarter of 2020.
In the same time, prices on rental of premises for hotels and restaurants as well as hotel accommodation services decreased by 17.3 and 15.5 percent respectively. Prices on rental of premises for shops decreased by 12.3 percent during the last year.
