The Services Producer Price Index increased by 1.2 percent from the fourth quarter of 2020 to the first quarter of 2021. Since the first quarter of 2020, the Services Producer Price Index has increased by 0.8 percent. The corresponding annual rate in the previous quarter was negative, at -0.2 percent.

Changes during the last quarter
The main upward contribution to the positive quarterly rate of change, 0.5 percentage points, came from higher prices in the section for transportation and storage services, in which support services for transportation resulted in an upward contribution of 0.2 percentage points. Within transportation and storage services, freight transport services by road and water transport services also accounted for an upward contribution of 0.1 percentage point each.
Prices also rose in several product groups in the section for professional, scientific and technical services, resulting in an upward contribution of 0.2 percentage points. Higher prices for computer consultancy services, rental and operating services of own or leased offices and tour operator services resulted in an upward contribution of 0.1 percentage point each.
This increase was partially offset by a downward contribution of 0.1 percentage point from advertising services.

Changes in the last year
The annual rate of change for the Services Producer Price Index was 0.8 percent in the first quarter of 2021 while in the fourth quarter of 2020 the annual rate was negative, at -0.2 percent.
In the past year, prices have risen mainly on support services for transportation, leading to an upward contribution of 0.5 percentage points to the annual rate. Rental and operating services of own or leased real estate provided an upward contribution of 0.2 percentage points. Higher prices on legal and accounting services, and architectural and engineering services led to upward contributions of 0.1 percentage point each.
This increase was partially offset by lower prices on hotel and similar accommodation services, providing a downward contribution of 0.2 percentage points. Downward contributions of 0.1 percentage point each also came from four product groups in the section for information and communication services: software publishing services, sound recording and music publishing services, wireless telecommunications services and computer programming services.
