Service prices continue to increase in the second quarter of 2021

The Service Producer Price Index increased by 0.9 percent from the first quarter of 2021 to the second quarter of 2021. Since the second quarter of 2020, the Service Producer Price Index has increased by 1.9 percent. Corresponding annual rate in the previous quarter was 0.8 percent.

Changes during the last quarter
The main upward contribution to the positive quarterly rate of change was higher prices in the section for transportation services, with a contribution of 0.6 percentage point, in which support services for transportation resulted in an upward contribution of 0.3 percentage points. Within the same section, higher prices for water transport services and freight transport services account for an upward contribution of 0.1 percentage point each.
Higher prices for hotel services and advertising services also contributed upward with 0.1 percentage point each. This increase was partially offset by a downward contribution of 0.1 percentage point respectively, from rental and operating services of own or leased shops and from travel agency and tour operator services.

Changes in the last year
The annual rate of change for the Service Producer Price Index was positive also in the second quarter of 2021, with 1.9 percent compared to the annual rate of 0.8 percent at the first quarter of 2021.
In the past year, prices have risen mainly on support services for transportation and rental and operating services of own or leased shops with a contribution of 0.6 percentage point respectively 0.4 percentage point to the positive annual rate. This increase was partially offset by lower prices on travel agency and tour operator services, which provided a downward contribution of 0.4 percentage points.
