The inflation rate according to the CPI with a fixed interest rate (CPIF) was 2.1 percent in May 2019, up from 2.0 percent in April. The CPIF increased by 0.3 percent from April to May. In the corresponding period last year, the CPIF also rose by 0.3 percent. The inflation rate according to the CPI was 2.2 percent in May 2019.
The increase in the CPI from April to May 2019 was mainly due to higher prices on clothing (2.0 percent), fuel (2.0 percent) and accomodation (12.9 percent), which contributed upwards by 0.1 percentage point each.
These increases were offset by lower prices on international flights (-17.4 percent) and electricity (-1.3 percent), which contributed downwards by 0.2 percentage point and 0.1 percentage point, respectively.
The CPI for May 2019 was 334.95 (1980=100).
The inflation rate according to the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) was 2.1 percent, unchanged between April and May. The HICP increased by 0.3 percent from April to May. In the corresponding period last year, the HICP also increased by 0.3 percent.
