Lower prices for energy related goods

The prices for energy related goods decreased on all markets between May and June. The downturn on the export market was 13.7 percent.

The prices for energy related goods decreased by 5.9 percent on the domestic market and by 4.8 percent on the import market. Crude oil prices fell by 3.1 percent in June. This was the first decline of the year for crude oil.

Changes during the last month

The Producer Price Index decreased by 0.2 percent between May and June 2019. In the same period, prices increased on the import market by 0.7 percent and on the export market by 0.5 percent, mainly because of a weaker Swedish krona. Prices decreased by 0.9 percent on the domestic market. Domestic supply prices, that is, producer prices on the domestic market and import prices together was unchanged between May and June.

Changes during the last year

The Producer Price Index annual rate in June was 2.5 percent (3.5 percent in May). On the export and import market, the annual rate was 3.4 percent and 2.4 percent respectively and 1.6 percent on the domestic market. The annual rate of domestic supply prices was 2.1 percent.

Changes in exchange rates

An appreciation or depreciation of the Swedish currency lowers or raise export and import prices in Swedish krona. According to Swedish Customs’ exchange rates, from May to June, the Swedish krona depreciated against the US dollar by 4.4 percent, against the Danish krona by 2.9 percent, against the euro by 2.6 percent, against the British pound by 1.2 percent and against the Norwegian krona by 1.0 percent.

In the last year, the Swedish krona has weakened, mainly against the US dollar, by 9.8 percent, but also against the euro by 4.5 percent, against the Danish krona by 4.3 percent, against the British pound by 3.9 percent and against the Norwegian krona by 1.9 percent.
