Household consumption decreased in April 2021

Household consumption decreased by 5.1 percent in April 2021 compared with March 2021, measured in seasonally adjusted figures, calculated in fixed prices and working day adjusted. Compared with April 2020, household consumption increased by 7.5 percent, measured in fixed prices and working day adjusted figures. In the last three month period, February-April 2021, consumption increased by 3.6 percent in fixed prices and working day adjusted figures, compared with the same period in 2020.

The largest weighted positive contribution came from the sector transport and retail sales and service of motor vehicles, which increased by 23.3 percent in fixed prices compared with April a year ago.

No sectors showed any decreases in fixed prices compared with April 2020, which means there were no negative contributions from any sectors to the total development of household consumption.

The COVID-19 outbreak started to significantly impact household consumption in March 2020, which should be taken into account when comparing annual development statistics.

Prices increased by 2.3 percent according to the consumption deflator.
