Household consumption decreased by 0.4 percent in April 2024, measured in seasonally adjusted figures, compared with March 2024. Compared with April 2023, household consumption decreased by 0.7 percent, measured in constant prices and working day adjusted figures. In the last three-month period, consumption increased by 0.2 percent compared with the same period a year ago, measured in constant prices and working day adjusted figures.
Retail trade, mostly food and beverages accounted for the largest weighted negative contribution to total consumption and decreased by 1.4 percent in constant prices compared with April a year ago. Measured in working day adjusted figures, the sector increased by 3.1 percent. The reason for the huge calendar-effect is that easter fell on April last year, but on March this year.
The largest weighted positive contribution came from the sector Housing, electricity, gas and heating, which increased by 3.0 percent in constant prices compared with April a year ago.

When the reference month January 2024 is published, the base year is changed to 2021. This means that the average of the monthly indices in 2021 is 100 (index 2021=100).
