Household consumption increased in May 2022

Household consumption increased by 0.7 percent in May 2022 compared with April 2022, measured in seasonally adjusted figures, calculated in fixed prices and working day adjusted. Compared with May 2021, household consumption increased by 5.2 percent, measured in fixed prices and working day adjusted figures. In the last three-month period, consumption increased by 6.1 percent in fixed prices and working day adjusted figures, compared with the same period a year ago.

Transport and retail sales and service of motor vehicles accounted for the largest weighted positive contribution to total consumption and increased by 14.0 percent in fixed prices compared with May a year ago.

The largest weighted negative contribution came from the sector Furniture, furnishings, household equipment and consumables, which decreased by 8.8 percent in fixed prices compared with May a year ago.

The COVID-19 outbreak started to significantly impact household consumption in April 2020, which should be taken into account when comparing annual development statistics.

Prices increased by 6.3 percent according to the consumption deflator.
