Household consumption decreased in September 2024

Household consumption decreased by 0.3 percent in September 2024, measured in seasonally adjusted figures, compared with August 2024. Compared with September 2023, household consumption increased by 0.1 percent, measured in constant prices and working day adjusted figures. In the third quarter 2024, consumption decreased by 0.2 percent compared with the same period a year ago, measured in constant prices and working day adjusted figures.
Amongst the sectors that contributed positively to total consumption was Retail trade, mostly food and beverages. The sector increased by 0.6 percent compared with August, measured in seasonally adjusted figures, and with 2.8 percent compared with September a year ago. Compared with last quarter, the sector increased by 0.4 percent.
One of the sectors that decreased both compared with last month as well as to September 2023, was Restaurants, cafes, hotels and other accommodation services. The decline was 1.3 percent, both compared to August as well as compared with September a year ago. Compared with last quarter, the sector increased by 1.1 percent.

When the reference month January 2024 is published, the base year is changed to 2021. This means that the average of the monthly indices in 2021 is 100 (index 2021=100).
